Scents from a Mother's Kitchen

Today was a rainy day so I was sorting through old photo albums.  I found this article from 1991 and I love how I felt about food and cooking then and it hasn't changed.  Excerpt from the clipping: "Growing up on a farm in Raleigh Township, I remember the scents born in my mother's kitchen.  I always have memories of that kitchen smelling good.   My mother made everything from scratch.  I never had a can of soup till I was married and I want my children to eat home made foods too."  My mom (Nanny to the kids) was and still is an amazing cook at 85 years old.   Maybe that is why my parents are both so healthy for their age?  They grow most of their own vegetables, and pick all their fruit locally and they don't purchase any processed food.  Making and sharing homemade food is something special at Nan's its not an everyday task.  Simply it is described as "love".  When my kids were little they always had their own special soup bowls for when they visited.   And now when we come for a visit she still has something she just made for you, whether its Apple Pie or Raisin Bread or Chicken Soup - oh and don't forget the Cookies.   It's always been her way of showing you how much she cares to see you!  Life is pretty wonderful when you grow up with someone like that.... Thank you Mom & Dad.
