Pear chutney

Free pears.... So what will I do with them.

Called my son for the Old Farmers Preserving and canning cookbook recipe for pear chutney.  He sent me one for apple, tomato, pineapple and peach.  All a little different but not one specific for pear... Hmm. So I decided to use the apple version and substitute it with my pears.  Now how am I going to do this on the Motorhome????   I could see Billy shaking his head, thinking what will she do next.  It worked great since it makes a small batch - I did it all outside on a portable burner.

Even sterilized the jars and bathed them after too.  Here is the recipe with such a unique twist.  Dates!!! I love dates.
My perfect appetizer is a slice of baguette with creamy Brie cheese and a dollop of chutney.

8 cups peeled and chopped pears
  2 cups chopped dates
Grate the peel off 2 large oranges
4 1/2 cups white gran sugar
  1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/3 tsp cloves, cinnamon and ginger
Combine in large pot and heat to rolling boil then reduce to simmer for 30 minutes.  Ladle into small sterilized jars and hot bath for 20 minutes.
